Pe $ \mathbb{R} $ se definește legea de compoziție $x * y = xy -4 x -4 y + 20 $.
Ecuația $ x * x = 5 $ are, în $ \mathbb{R} $, soluţia:

Rezolvaţi în $ \mathbb{R} $ ecuaţia $ x * x = 5 $.

Soluție:

Conform b)
are loc egalitatea $ x * y = (x-4)(y -4) + 4 $, $ \forall x, y \in \mathbb{R} $,
deci
$ \displaystyle \begin{aligned} x * x & = (x-4)(x -4) + 4 = \\\ & = (x-4)^2 + 4, \end{aligned}$

iar ecuația devine:

$ (x-4)^2 + 4 = 5 $
$ (x-4)^2 = 1 $
$ x-4 = \pm 1 $

$ \displaystyle \begin{aligned} x-4& = 1 \qquad \qquad & x-4& = -1 \\\ x & = 5 & x & = 3 \end{aligned}$
